Breakfast with Joe

Like I said in my last post, I was definitely ready for an online break and some time with my guys. It ended up being perfect timing because we left for our second annual family camping trip later that week. The trip was supposed to be a week and a half but ended up being just over two weeks, so I definitely got what I had asked for! The break was great and really what we all needed.

I’m still sorting camping/vacation pictures so I’m going to go out-of-order for the moment. We actually visited South Bend last but I’m going to share those pictures first because there are far fewer of them.

First up, breakfast with Grandpa Joe.

On Monday (Labor Day) I called Sarah, who started going to breakfast with Joe when we moved to Chicago, to ask which day breakfast was because I wanted to surprise Joe. She said they met on Tuesday mornings which worked out perfectly for us! It was so fun to surprise Joe! I honestly can’t remember the last time we were able to make it to breakfast with him and it was nice to sit and catch up.

It was also nice because we got to catch up some with Mr. Fred, too. He goes to the same restaurant pretty much every day (if not every day) and Joe always teases him that it’s Fred’s office. At first Paul wasn’t sure he remembered Mr. Fred but it only took a few minutes and a couple of high fives and he did start to remember. By the end of the visit they were definitely best buddies.

After breakfast I offered to drive Joe home and so we also stopped in to see the staff at our old apartment building. Again, it was nice to chat and catch up. It’s always funny to see how things are different or the same–with people or just the building in general. We ended up staying for quite a while though, so I’m not sure too much work got done, but we definitely had a nice time!

Paul has been asking since our visit when we’re moving back there. Obviously at this point we don’t have immediate plans to move back to SB, but its nice that he has fond memories and likes being there.

PS The CDs that Sarah sent last year we listened to a lot on our trip, Paul just loves them!
